MIAMI, Florida – The fourth day of Matchday Two of 2019/20 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying delivered plenty of thrills as Montserrat, Nicaragua, Jamaica and Saint Kitts and Nevis all emerged victorious.
Montserrat earned its first win in over five years with a 1-0 home triumph over Belize at the Blakes Estate Stadium in Lookout.
The two teams traded scoring chances in the first half, with the home side coming closest only to be denied by Belize GK Woodrow West, who made a number of excellent saves.
Montserrat kept plugging away though and it found the game’s lone goal in the 74’ with what could go down as the goal of the tournament. Spencer Weir played a one-two combination with Adrian Clifton that saw Spencer collect a ball on the left edge of the area and curl a picture-perfect right-footed shot into the top right corner of the net.
It was Montserrat’s first victory since May 2014 when it defeated Bonaire in 2014 Caribbean Cup Qualification. Monsterrat is now 1W-0D-1L, 2GF 2GC, while Belize is 1W-0D-1L, 4GF 1GC.
Nicaragua’s all-time leading scorer Juan Barrera lived up to the hype as he scored a hat trick to pace the Pinoleros to a 6-0 win over Anguilla at the Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero in Heredia, Costa Rica.
Just 24 seconds had gone off the clock when Jaime Moreno made it 1-0. Nicaragua never took its foot off the pedal as Barrera struck for his hat trick (22’, 28’, 42’), Moreno added a second (39’) to go along with a Kapil Battice own goal in the 4’.
Nicaragua is unbeaten at 2W-0D-0L, 8GF 0GC, while Anguilla falls to 0W-0D-2L, 0GF 11GC.
Jamaica recorded a second straight clean sheet win by downing hosts Bonaire 6-0 at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curacao.
Bonaire hung tough through the first 45 minutes and was only down 2-0 after goals from Cory Burke (14’) and Ricardo Morris (43’), but the Reggae Boyz only got stronger in the second half and powered their way to the three points with goals from Owayne Gordon (48’), a second from Morris (51’), Peter-Lee Vassell (58’) and Dane Kelly (81’).
Jamaica improved to 2W-0D-0L, 10GF 0GC, while Bonaire is now 0W-0D-2L, 0GF 11GC.
