SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – The Honduran national soccer team will have a line-up mixed with experience and youth for the October matches in Group B of the Concacaf Nation’s League A against Trinidad & Tobago and Martinique.
Honduras will visit Trinidad & Tobago in Couva, San Fernando, on October 10 and receive Martinique at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula on the 13th of the same month. The initial preparations for their debut in the Concacaf Nations League will begin on October 6, in San Pedro Sula, and a day later they will travel to Trinidad & Tobago.
Trinidad & Tobago and Martinique have two points each. For Honduras, it will be their debut in the competition.
The list of 23 players will be headed by 36-year-old defender Maynor Figueroa – 130 international matches – and 33-year-old Emilio Izaguirre – 88 official matches – with the Honduran jersey. Both played at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and Brazil 2014.
Fabián Coito, Honduras’ head coach, will use 14 players who were in the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup for the two games against the Trinitarians and Martinique, of which the absences of strikers Anthony Lozano (Cádiz, Spain), Michael Chirinos (Vancouver Whitecaps, U.S.), and Román Rubilio Castillo (Tondela, Portugal) will stand out.
The new additions the line-up are the young strikers Rigoberto Rivas (Reggina, Italy), Jonathan Rubio (Tondela, Portugal) – who had an outstanding performance in the friendly fixtures in September against Puerto Rico and Chile scoring goals in both matches – in addition to Douglas Martínez (Real Salt Lake, U.S.) and Bryan Róchez (Nacional, Portugal), the latter called up for the first time by Coito to the Honduran national team.
The last time the Honduran national team faced Trinidad & Tobago at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva San Fernando, they achieved a two-goal win, on September 1, 2017, during the qualifiers to the 2018 Russia World Cup.
Alexander Lopez at 7' and Alberth Elis at 16' scored the goals for Honduras, Joevin Jones at 67' scored for Trinidad & Tobago via penalty. López and Elis are part of the current squad, in addition to five others who were in that meeting, goalkeeper Luis López who was in the starting line-up, defenders Maynor Figueroa, Emilio Izaguirre, Felix Crisanto and Henry Figueroa.
