BELMOPAN, Belize Goals from Ean Lewis and Deon McCaulay led Belize to a 2-0 victory over French Guiana in Group A of League B of the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League on Thursday night at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, Belize.

The Belize win means that Grenada have clinched a first-place finish in the group and have qualified for the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, plus promotion to League A.

Belize could not have asked for a better start as Lewis struck in just the 4’ minute to hand the hosts a 1-0 lead. He collected a pass and raced past a trio of French Guiana defenders before firing in a right-footed finish for the goal.

French Guiana looked to respond, but veteran Belize GK Woodrow West was alert and never allowed Les Yana Dokos a chance at equalizing for the rest of the half.

The visitors kept the pressure on and nearly pulled level in the 58’ through Rhudy Evens, whose shot flashed just wide.

French Guiana would come to rue the miss, as McCaulay, Belize’s all-time leading scorer, notched his second goal of the CNL in the 70’ by collecting a ball, beating a defender and then firing in a left-footed shot to round out the 2-0 scoreline.
