SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – An early goal from Jairo Bueno was enough to earn the Dominican Republic a 1-0 victory over El Salvador in Group B action of League B at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo.
For the Dominican Republic, it marks their first ever win against El Salvador in four attempts.
The Dominican Republic could not have asked for a better start, as Bueno put the hosts ahead 1-0 in the 7’. Jean Carlos Lopez played in a free kick and Bueno was there to flick a header into the El Salvador net.
La Selecta came mere inches away from pulling level on a Marvin Monterroza shot inside the area that took a deflection off the leg of a Dominican defender, only to see the ball trickle wide.
El Salvador continued probing and poking away in search of an equalizer, but things got a lot more difficult when Jonathan Jimenez received a red card, leaving the Central American to play the final half-hour with 10 men.
In the end, the Dominican Republic held firm thanks to the solid goalkeeping of Miguel Lloyd to earn their first three points of the CNL.
