SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – Group C of League A of the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League continues on Monday with two teams in a familiar setting, as Honduras host Canada at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula.

For Honduras, it is their final home match of the CNL group stage, and after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Curacao in front of the home fans on Monday, the Catrachos will be out to secure the three points and keep themselves in the race for a first-place finish.

While Romell Quioto’s second half stoppage time goal proved too little too late for Honduras against Curacao, it might just be the confidence boost the Honduran attack needs in order to have a good performance against the Canadians.

Meanwhile, 2026 FIFA World Cup participants Canada hit the ground running in their opener against Curacao, marching past Curacao 4-0 in Vancouver.

Alphonso Davies was the star of the night with a pair of goals, making him Canada’s all-time top scorer in CNL play with four goals.

Monday’s contest comes at a very interesting time for both teams. For years the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano was a house of horrors for Canada, as they suffered defeats there in Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018 while being outscored 13-3.

But things changed last January in the Third Round of CWCQ for Qatar 2022, as Canada left San Pedro Sula with all three points following a 2-0 win.

Honduras will be eager to try to regain some of their old home dominance over their North American opponents, while Canada would like nothing more than to post another away win in the Central American country.
