MIAMI. - Guadeloupe is 90 minutes away from promotion to League A as Group A of League B concludes in the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League on Sunday.
The Gwada Boys took sole possession of first place with a win at Sint Maarten and can decide their own destiny by winning to secure promotion. A draw could still see them through depending on the result of the other match in the group.
Saint Lucia must win to have an opportunity of finishing in first place with a Guadeloupe loss to Saint Kitts and Nevis. A Saint Lucia win and Guadeloupe draw would decide the group leader on tiebreakers.
Separated by one point, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Sint Maarten look to do everything possible to avoid relegation to League C. Sint Maarten currently occupies last place with three points.
Guadeloupe vs. Saint Kitts and Nevis
Guadeloupe meets Saint Kitts and Nevis at the Sainte-Anne Municipal Stadium in Sainte-Anne, Guadeloupe.
The two sides previously met in matchday two as Guadeloupe took a 2-1 away victory. Luther Archimede’s opening goal was equalized by Tiquanny Williams prior to halftime, before Tairyk Arconte would score the match-winner in the 77th minute.
The Gwada Boys have won two straight and are coming off a 2-0 victory over Sint Maarten. Ange Plumain scored his fifth goal of the competition and leads the team in goals and co-leads in assists alongside Matthias Phaeton, who also scored in the previous match.
Williams leads Saint Kitts and Nevis with four goals. The Sugar Boyz earned a point in their last outing against Saint Lucia on a night in which neither team could get past the other’s defense. A win would secure a stay in League B for Saint Kitts and Nevis, while a draw would leave it up to the result of the other match.
Saint Lucia vs. Sint Maarten
Saint Lucia and Sint Maarten square off at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.
Both nations last met in the first matchday, as Saint Lucia started its campaign for first place with a 5-1 away victory. Dominic Poleon scored a hat-trick, while Reeco Hackett-Fairchild and Ridel Stanislas added the other two goals for the visitors.
Saint Lucia split results with Guadeloupe in October, but a scoreless draw to Saint Kitts and Nevis has complicated the path to promotion. Gregson President and GK Vino Barclett, along with Poleon, have been key players who will be looked on to guide Saint Lucia for a chance at the top spot.
Chovanie Amatkarijo scored for Sint Maarten in the previous meeting between the two teams. Imar Kort, Gerwin Lake and Ilounga Pata are the other players who have also scored for Sint Maarten and all will be looked to for the nation’s second victory in this group stage.
