MIAMI.- After qualifying for the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup, French Guiana arrived into 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying full of confidence and optimistic about their chances of making a return trip to the 2019 Gold Cup.
After a week one 5-0 win over Anguilla, French Guiana were poised to take the next step, only to suffer a narrow 1-0 home loss to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. That set in motion an up-and-down CNLQ campaign in which Les Yana Dokos finished with a 2W-0D-2L record with eight goals scored and six conceded.
The results of the CNLQ have placed French Guiana in League B, where they find themselves in a tricky Group A along with Saint Kitts and Nevis, Grenada and Belize.
Paramount for French Guiana will be to find their scoring stride, particularly on the forward line. In the four matches in CNLQ, DF Kevin Rimane and MF Jules Haabo led French Guiana in scoring with two goals each.
It will be imperative for French Guiana to have forwards like Joffrey Torvic, Thomas Issorat or Warren Rino find the back of the net early and often in League B.
All three players scored in the 5-0 win over Anguilla, and with a home date slotted for September 5 against Belize, the opportunity will present itself to assemble a formidable attack and put together a consistent run of results that yields promotion to League A.
