SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – The El Salvador National Team will be back in action in 2019/20 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying on October 13 with a tricky test against visiting Barbados.

The Cuscatlecos collected a 2-1 away win at Montserrat on matchday 1 and are hoping for a similar result against the Caribbean side on matchday 2.

“[Caribbean teams] are physically stronger teams than us, but when we are with the ball we have to play the ball and look for the goal,” said MF Gerson Mayen to reporters on Monday.

“If we play our game, we are going to get the three necessary points,” added Mayen.

On a personal level, the 29-year-old Santa Tecla man with 28 caps under his belt is thrilled to be back in the fold with the National Team.

“I’m very happy about this call-up. It is a privilege to be with the national team once again. It is always an honor to wear the blue and white shirt,” said Mayen.

Mayen also acknowledged the importance of delivering three points and a solid performance against the islanders in front of the home fans at the Estadio Cuscatlan.

“We’re thinking about Barbados. It will be a very tough match here at home. We know that the home fans will demand a lot from us and without question want the win. We will do whatever possible to take home the match,” said Mayen.

One thing for certain though for El Salvador is that focus will not be a problem. Currently 13th in the 34-team table, El Salvador is keen on getting the win and moving up the CNL standings.

“I see the team very concentrated, happy to be here. Like I mentioned before, it’s a privilege to be here and without a doubt they also feel that satisfaction,” concluded Mayen.
