PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands -- Bonaire took a big first step towards the Group A title in League C with a 4-1 victory in the Turks and Caicos Islands on Friday afternoon.
A very fast start to this one saw Bonaire takes a 1-0 lead inside five minutes, as Ayrton Cicilia scored the first of his three goals when he beat Turks and Caicos Islands GK Pendieno Brooks at his near post with an impressive strike.
Cicilia then doubled the Bonaire lead in the 15th minute with a simple header into an empty net when Brooks was caught out of goal. He very nearly added a third in the 23rd minute, but sent it over the bar.
Turks and Caicos Islands were still showing plenty of fight though to try to cut into the deficit, managing 11 shots in the first half alone.
However, despite their best efforts, it was Bonaire who continued to score, with substitute Jonathan Libania netting in the 57th minute to extend the visitors’ lead to 3-0.
Cicilia then finished his first international hat trick in the 80th minute to put Bonaire ahead 4-0.
Turks and Caicos Islands would not go empty-handed, though, thanks to a calm finish from Karl Shand Jr. to pull one back in the 86th minute to round out the 4-1 scoreline.
Bonaire will remain in Curacao to host Sint Maarten for their next match, while Turks and Caicos Islands will travel to the US Virgin Islands.
