MANAGUA, Nicaragua – Nicaragua picked up its first Concacaf Nations League win with a 3-1 result over Dominica in Group C of League B action at the National Stadium in Managua, Nicaragua.

The home side got on the board early after Carlos Chavarria eluded two defenders to take the lead with a 7th minute strike.

Dominica forward Javid George nearly tied the match in the 20th minute but was denied by Nicaraguan goalkeeper Brayan Torres.

Nicaragua team captain and all-time top scorer Juan Barrera had to exit the match in the 27th minute due to injury.

Chavarria put the home fans at ease with a second goal, doubling the lead for the Central Americans in the 41st minute. The brace marks the first multi-goal performance with the senior national team for the 25-year-old forward.

Nicaragua’s third goal came from a hard shot by Chavarria that went past goalkeeper Glenson Prince, ultimately pushed past the white line by Ulises Rayo in the 90+1 minute.

Julian Wade scored the lone goal for Dominica in the 90+3 minute.

The two nations meet again on Monday in their fourth group stage fixture. That match will take place at the Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica.
