BASSETERRE, St. Kitts and Nevis -- Bonaire defeated the British Virgin Islands for the second time in as many months on Sunday afternoon following a historic comeback that left them 4-3 winners.
The game began as a cautious affair, but a handball in the box from the Nature Boyz sent Bonaire to the penalty spot. Ayrton Cicilia stepped up to slot home his first ever goal for the national team in the 25th minute.
Cicilia and adversary Bailey Rowe had one decent chance each in the next 20 minutes, and it looked like the visitors would get into the break with the lead, but Rowe snuck in an equalizer just seconds before the halftime whistle.
In the 65th minute Tyler Forbes, who scored both goals for the Nature Boyz the last time these two sides met, pulled off a nifty spin move and coolly finished past Rishison Franz to give the Virgin Islands a 2-1 lead.
Jerry Wiltshire knocked in a loose ball in the 84th minute to put the British Virgin Islands ahead 3-1, but Bonaire were hardly finished.
Captain Rilove Janga scored a thunderbolt from 30 yards out to pull it back to 3-2. Cicilia put in a dangerous shot that was ruled to have been nudged by Janga on the scoresheet to level things up in the 90+1’.
Jurven Koffy got the decisive game winner in the 90+4’, leaving the Nature Boyz stunned and sending Bonaire into euphoria.
