THE VALLEY, Anguilla– The Anguilla National Team returns to competitive football this Friday in its opening match of 2019/20 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying at home against French Guiana at Ronald Webster Park in The Valley, Anguilla.
In addition to Friday’s contest, Anguilla’s Nations League schedule will continue with Nicaragua (Oct. 14), Bahamas (Nov. 18) and U.S Virgin Islands (Mar. 22).
The October contest against the Pinoleros will be a rematch of the two-legged tie that the teams played in the first round of Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for Russia 2018 in which Nicaragua emerged with an 8-0 aggregate victory.
Anguilla has been busily preparing for Friday’s opener. On August 22, Anguilla battled to a 1-1 draw away to fellow CNL side Sint Maarten with Maley Allen scoring for the visitors.
Four days later Anguilla took on the French side of the island, Saint Martin, and was narrowly defeated 2-1 in which Kapil Battice scored the lone Anguilla goal.
One big piece of news for Anguilla heading into the CNL was defender Germain Hughes signing with English club Heather St. John’s FC in the Midland Division One League.
Hughes has eight Anguilla caps and played last season in the Barbados Premier League with UWI Blackbirds.
