THE VALLEY, Anguilla -- Anguilla dropped their most recent Nations League fixture against Puerto Rico 3-2, but it was an electric atmosphere during the second half comeback assault which saw the Dolphins nearly come from 3-0 down to tie the game.

No Anguillan player seemed to feed off the crowd more than forward Jonathan Guishard, who led the team’s late charge in that Puerto Rico match.

“The second half was just pure energy, and we had some fight in us, but if we had our energy in the first half maybe we could have won. But the fans played a big role, they are like an extra player,” said Guishard in an interview with Concacaf.com.

Guishard went on to praise the fan support on the island as exceptional.

“There’s lots of conversation. It’s been a while since the fans got to see goals and such a close game and they’re looking forward to seeing more. Being such a small nation, news travels fast and everybody knows everybody, and everybody knows about and is in tune with the games. Of course, a lot of people came to the game, but what really surprised me is that a lot of people -- from here -- watched the game online,” he said with a hint of excitement.

The fans are loving things, and the players are too. “I enjoy it, because we get to play more often. We used to only play a few games every couple of years, and now we’re getting games against some of the Caribbean’s best and some of the region’s best,” Guishard added.

On a personal note, the 23-year old has a simple but relatable dream for a striker.

“I just want to score goals, lots of goals,” he said, laughing to himself.

It sounds a bit silly at first, but really what more can a young striker ask for? If he continues to perform at the level he did during the last match, the dream that Guishard and Anguilla are following can soon become a reality.

On the topic of Anguilla’s final match against Puerto Rico next month, Guishard made things clear: “That’s definitely unfinished business. We are for sure going to Puerto Rico to win. They came here and beat us, so we need to go there and beat them and return the favor.”

The showdown will take place on November 19 in Bayamón.
