VERONA, Italy -- Hellas Verona announced Tuesday that further diagnostic testing performed on defender Rafael Marquez revealed an adductor injury to his right leg, which will keep him out of action for approximately four weeks.
Although no official word has been given by the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol, if that timeline proves to be accurate, the 36-year-old could miss Mexico’s CONCACAF Cup encounter against the United States on October 10. The winner of that match will earn a place in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Marquez, who played in the Copa America earlier this year, sustained the injury during an Italian Serie A game at Atalanta on Saturday. He was replaced in the 70th minute by Matteo Bianchietti.
