HOUSTON – While one unit of the Mexico national team is preparing to face Germany in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup semifinals, another will meet Ghana in an international friendly on Wednesday night at NRG Stadium.

With its Gold Cup opener against El Salvador on June 9 approaching, the defending champion Tricolor is looking forward to getting on the field together for the first time.

"We are excited, not only for what happens in the Confederations Cup, but also in the Gold Cup,” said assistant coach Luis Pompilio Paez, who is managing the side while head coach Juan Carlos Osorio is in Russia with the Confederations Cup squad.  “We are hopeful to be champion and also retaining that title.

"The obligation is always to compete and give the best for Mexico, which is the number one in CONCACAF and has to prove it in any way to any rival.  We respect all.  We know that football is eleven against eleven.”

After the Ghana encounter, Mexico will travel to Seattle for its last Gold Cup warm-up against Paraguay on July 1.
