CHICAGO, Illinois -- Mexico and the United States are set to square off in the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup Final this Sunday at Soldier Field in Chicago. 

This will be the sixth time that the two nations have matched up in a Gold Cup Final, and the first since 2011.

Mexico has won four of the five prior meetings. The only U.S. win came in 2007, a final that was played at Soldier Field. The U.S. also defeated Panama in the 2013 Final at the same ground. 

Mexico started this tournament with a 7-0 win over Cuba at the Rose Bowl and a 3-1 win over Canada in Denver to jump atop Group A. 

Since then, however, it’s been far from easy. A 3-2 win over Martinique in Charlotte closed out the group stage before Mexico then needed penalties to get past Costa Rica in Houston, a 1-1 scoreline after 120 minutes. 

Head Coach Gerardo Martino’s team then narrowly got by Haiti, 1-0, in a second consecutive match that went to extra-time. 

The U.S. opened the tournament with a 4-0 win over Guyana in Saint Paul, Minnesota and a 6-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in Cleveland, before closing out Group D with a 1-0 win over Panama in Kansas City. 

A tight 1-0 win over Curacao in the quarterfinals sent the U.S. from Philadelphia to a semifinal in Nashville, where they defeated Jamaica 3-1.

Sunday’s Gold Cup Final between Mexico and the United States will kick off at 9 PM ET.
