CHICAGO – The United States women’s national team will face Costa Rica in a pair of international friendlies this August, U.S. Soccer announced Wednesday.
The 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship (CWC) finalists will meet on August 16 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and August 19 at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The U.S. is still participating in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup (FWWC), where it will meet China in a quarterfinal encounter on Friday in Ottawa, Canada. Making its first FWWC appearance this year in Canada, Costa Rica drew with Spain (1-1) and Korea Republic (2-2) in Group E, before missing out on a place in the round of 16 with a narrow 1-0 loss to Brazil.
In the 2014 CWC decider, the Americans posted a 6-0 win at PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania, thanks to a four-goal outburst by Abby Wambach.
