MIAMI, Florida – The Costa Rican Women’s National Team will play their last match of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Monday at the Waikato Stadium in Hamilton, New Zealand against Zambia in Group C.

After losing their first two games against Spain and Japan, La Sele is already eliminated from the tournament with one game left to play. Zambia is also out of the Women’s World Cup after they, too, lost their initial games.

Even though they are not in competition to qualify to the next round anymore, Costa Rica still have a lot to play for, as they have never won a Women’s World Cup match and will go all in to make history and take their first three points.

The key player so far for Las Ticas has been GK Daniela Solera, who has anchored a defense that has snuffed out 72 scoring chances in two games. With Zambia's upfront offensive line, she will need to shine again in these last 90 minutes.

Another player that has stood out in her limited time on the field is attacker Raquel ‘Rocky’ Rodriguez. The Costa Rica legend was’t available to play for the first match against Spain due to injury, but she did play against Japan, proving that even with a few minutes, she can be one of the most disruptive players on the pitch.

Captain and FW Barbara Banda is Zambia’s most dangerous player, as she is able to create opportunities very easily. The Costa Rica defense will have to be careful as to how Banda and the rest of the Copper Queens attack their area.

Costa Rica will face Zambia for the first time in their history, looking to write new records and add a new chapter to their football.

With nothing to lose and everything to win, La Sele will play their last game of the 2023 Women’s World Cup as it was their first, fighting for their first win until the final whistle.
