MIREBALAIS, Haiti – Haiti launched its qualifying campaign for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over visiting Suriname at Park Bayas in a CFU Women’s Caribbean Cup encounter.
With the victory, the Haitians climbed into first place in Group 4 on goal difference ahead of Cuba. Suriname was eliminated from the competition.
Samantha Brand (34’) netted the opener in the first half, while Wisline Dolce (75’ pen) and Manoucheka Pierre Louis (83’) sealed the win with strikes in the later stages of the game.
Haiti needs only to avoid a loss to Cuba on Tuesday to clinch a place in the Caribbean’s final round, where berths to the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship will be at stake.
