ATLANTA -- Atlanta United announced Thursday the signing of United States international Brad Guzan to a multi-year deal.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper, currently contracted with Middlesbrough of the English Premier League, will be added to the club’s roster upon the opening of the Secondary Transfer Window on July 10.
He joins Atlanta United after spending the last nine years playing in England with Aston Villa (2008-16), Hull City (2011, loan) and Middlesbrough (2016-17).
Guzan began his career in MLS with Chivas USA, appearing in 79 regular-season games from 2005-08 and being crowned the 2007 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.
In 2008 he transferred to Aston Villa, where he spent eight seasons, making 171 appearances across all competitions. Guzan signed a two-year contract with Middlesbrough ahead of the 2016/17 English Premier League campaign after Villa were relegated to the Championship. Thus far, he’s played in five overall games with The Boro.
Internationally, Guzan has earned 53 caps since making his debut February 19, 2006 against Guatemala.
He won the Golden Glove award at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and has played in the Copa America twice (2007, 2016) and the CONCACAF Cup (2015).
