GUATEMALA CITY – The Final Round of the Concacaf Qualifiers to the 2026 FIFA World Cup continued with El Salvador securing a 1-nil win over Guatemala in Group A at Estadio Cementos Progreso in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Harold Osorio scored the match-winning goal for El Salvador in the 79’, striking from close range to capitalize on a delivery into the box from Nathan Ordaz on a corner kick.
Darwin Lom came close to finding the equalizer for Guatemala in the 90’+1’, but his right-footed shot from the center of the box was met by a diving save from El Salvador goalkeeper Mario González.
Osorio had a chance to secure his brace on the evening in the 90’+3’, with a left-footed finish that was just wide of the left post.
González delivered a standout performance in goal for El Salvador, posting five saves enroute to collecting a clean sheet.
The victory gives El Salvador a three-point start at the top of Group A following a nil-nil draw between Suriname and Panama earlier in the day. La Selecta will host Suriname as it defends the top spot on Monday.
Guatemala will visit Panama on Monday as both nations continue their World Cup hopes.
