MANAGUA, Nicaragua — The Final Round of the Concacaf Qualifiers to the 2026 FIFA World Cup continued with Nicaragua earning a 2-nil win over Honduras in Group C on Thursday at Estadio Nacional de Fútbol in Managua, Nicaragua.
Bancy Hernández opened the scoring for Nicaragua in the 12’, making a run on the left side and smashing one past the goalkeeper.
La Azul y Blanco put a stamp on the win in the 82’ as Jaime Moreno ripped one off an assist from Junior Arteaga.
Despite the victory, Nicaragua’s hopes for the 2026 FIFA World Cup come to an end due to Haiti’s 1-nil win against Costa Rica.
The result makes the final matchday extremely important for Los Catrachos, who retained first place on goal difference in the race for the direct qualification spot.
Honduras will visit Costa Rica on Tuesday in the last matchday of the Final Round. Nicaragua will close its campaign against Haiti on the same day.
