BRUSSELS, Belgium – After a long injury layoff, Honduras international Andy Najar returned to first-team action for Anderlecht, coming on as a 56th-minute substitute for Kara Mbodji in a 7-0 Belgian league win over visiting Mouscron on Sunday.
The 23-year-old midfielder suffered an ACL tear early in a match against Club Brugge on April 17, 2016, and has been out since.
"I feel good, feel great, feel amazing after seven months from injury to come and play a few minutes tonight. That’s amazing,” Najar said after the match. “When you hear the stadium saying your name, it’s a great, great feeling. It gives you confidence and I was so happy for that.
“I hope to continue getting minutes and hope I can get to my level again.”
Najar has earned 33 caps for Honduras and scored the last of his four goals in a 1-1 draw against Panama in the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Anderlecht currently sits sixth in the domestic table, five points behind first-place Zulte-Waregem.
