WILLEMSTAD, Curaçao – The Final Round of the Concacaf Qualifiers to the 2026 FIFA World Cup continued with Haiti earning a 1-nil victory over Costa Rica in Group C on Thursday at Stadion Ergilio Hato in Willemstad, Curaçao.
Frantzdy Pierrot opened the scoring for Haiti to take the lead in the 44’, striking from close range to cap off a passing sequence down the left flank. Ruben Providence provided the assist on the play.
Goalkeeper Johny Placide delivered a standout performance throughout the remainder of the match to help Haiti preserve the lead and secure the win. In total, Placide contributed six saves en route to keeping a clean sheet.
With the win, Haiti climbs to second place in the group with eight points and a 2-2-1 record. Les Grenadiers will host Nicaragua on Tuesday with the opportunity of sealing the direct qualification.
The loss sees Costa Rica drop to third place with six points and a 1-3-1 record, but the Central American nation keeps its hopes alive of securing a first-place finish. Los Ticos will host Honduras in the final matchday.
