MEXICO CITY - The Federación Mexicana de Fútbol announced Saturday that due to a knee injury, forward Raul Jimenez will miss Mexico’s last fourth-round World Cup qualifier against visiting Honduras on September 6.

Jimenez scored the third goal in a 3-1 win over host El Salvador on Friday, converting from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute and helping first-place Mexico improve 5-0-0 in Group A. He reported experiencing instability in his left knee before the final whistle.

After having an MRI, a Grade 1 injury to the medial collateral ligament was confirmed.

The coaching staff decided that Jimenez should return to Benfica, his club in Portugal, to continue his rehabilitation. The 25-year-old has two goals in two games for the Portuguese power to open the new campaign.

Mexico has already sealed a place in final round of CONCACAF qualifying for Russia 2018.
