SAN JOSE, Costa Rica -- After his three-goal performance in Cartagines’ 4-3 CONCACAF Champions League win over Isidro Metapan on Thursday, Pablo Herrera received a call-up to Costa Rica for its Wednesday friendly at the Dominican Republic.
The attacking midfielder and Alajuelense’s Ariel Rodriguez were summoned to the squad on Monday, hours before it was to depart for the Caribbean.
The duo is replacing injured Herediano midfielder Jose Miguel Cubero and FC Copenhagen’s Christian Bolaños, who cannot travel out of Denmark due to a missing passport
"I feel very happy’” Herrera told the Cartagines website after receiving the news. “I always work to be at a very good level. I hope to do my best.”
Herrera has not played in any World Cup qualifiers for Brazil 2014, but is confident of the task ahead.
"I have to be consistent, show my level game by game,” noted the 26-year-old. “I’m working to get better every day, and obviously I'm very confident and motivated here in the team and I hope to contribute in any way I can.”
Herrera has 25 caps for the Ticos, including nine appearances in 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
Rodriguez joined the Manudos from Perez Zeledon after the 2013 Toneo Verano. The midfielder, 27, was a member of the UNCAF Copa Centroamericana title-winning side this past January, has appeared in five 2014 World Cup
