MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship continued Sunday as the United States and Costa Rica earned victories in Group A at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
The U.S. sealed its place among the top two in their group, clinching a berth in the Semifinals and participation in the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
Puerto Rico 1, United States 3
The United States earned a 3-1 win against Puerto Rico to collect a second consecutive victory and secure its World Cup qualification.
Katie Scott opened the scoring in the 4’ to place the U.S. in the lead with a right-footed rocket from outside the box. Mary Long extended the lead in the 24’ after driving into the box to score from close range.
Long struck again in the 65’ with a precise finish on the outside edge of the box. Aurora Gaines took one back for Puerto Rico in the 67’, winning a contested ball in the box to strike with her right.
Guyana 0, Costa Rica 9
Costa Rica earned a 9-nil win against Guyana to collect a first victory in the 2025 edition and advance its qualification hopes.
Sheika Scott converted from the penalty spot in the 5’ and 22’ before striking a header off a corner kick in the 25’ to collect her hat-trick.
Emma Azofeifa extended the lead for the hosts in the 29’ with a right-footed strike from the outside edge of the box. Scott struck again in the 45’+6’ to collect her fourth goal of the day.
Lucía Paniagua opened her account in the 63’ to continue the scoring in the second half. Daniela Ocampo struck from long distance in the 84’ before Azofeifa collected her brace in the 90’+3’.
Scott added a fifth to her tally in the 90’+5’ to put a bow on the victory and thrust herself into the lead in the Top Scorer race.
