MIAMI, Florida The 2020 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship produced another memorable tournament in which players and teams from all around the region stood out.

Here are three of the best moments from the 2020 CWU20.

  1. Dumornay on fire

Haiti MF Melchie Dumornay was a force to be reckoned with at the 2020 CWU20, as she took home Golden Boot honors with 14 goals scored. There were many great goals that the 16-year-old scored, but her first goal in what turned out to be a hat-trick in Haiti’s 3-0 quarterfinal win over Guyana was indeed a special strike.

In the 18’, a ball from the right was crossed into the box to find the streaking Dumornay, who then fired in a right-footed shot into the top right corner of net for the goal.

  1. Double the saves for Matamoro

Cuba reached the knockout round of the tournament thanks in large part to GK Alianne Matamoro, who made a number of crucial saves, including a penalty kick stop against Honduras in the group stage.

But Matamoro’s best moment came in the Round of 16 contest against Canada. In the 75’ the Canadians were threatening, but Matamoro soared to her right to prevent a goal. Seconds later she was called into action, this time blocking a shot from point-blank range.

  1. Gonzalez the hero for Mexico

Alison Gonzalez played a key role in Mexico reaching the final and also clinching a spot in the 2020 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup. Yet her heroics started back in Mexico’s opening group stage match against Puerto Rico. With the score locked at 1-1, it looked like a draw was in the cards.

But Gonzalez had other ideas and with just seconds remaining in stoppage time amid a driving rain storm, Gonzalez stretched to latch onto a cross from the left wing and redirected in a shot to give El Tricolor a dramatic 2-1 victory.
