MIAMI, Florida – Group F of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship got off to a flying start for Guyana and Mexico on Saturday at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The action started with Guyana taking on Honduras and it was the Catrachas who had all the chances in the first half, until the final 10 seconds when a long-range effort from Guyana’s
Samantha Banfield rippled the back of the net to hand her side a 1-0 lead.

Honduras pushed hard for an equalizer, but were never able to breach the Guyana defense, and in second half stoppage time in the 90+1’, Audrey Narine put the three points on ice for the
Lady Jaguars by sweeping in a shot from outside the area.

Mexico and Panama went toe-to-toe in an intense first half in which the two defenses stood firm,
but Mexico would open things up in the second 45 minutes, beginning with an excellent left-footed volley steered home by Aylin Avilez in the 48’ for a 1-0 Mexico lead.

A crucial moment came just after the hour mark when a penalty was whistled in favor of Mexico, coinciding with a sending off for Panama. Alexia Villanueva would convert the spot kick in the 63’ to double the Mexico lead to 2-0.

El Tricolor then finished things off in the 81’ on a fine left-footed finish from Paola Chavero to complete the 3-0 scoreline.
