Kennedy Fuller joins the list

Kennedy Fuller, along with Sealey Strawn, Linda Ullmark, and Emma Louise Johnson, scored their first goals of the tournament. Fuller became the sixth U.S. player to score a goal and deliver two assists in the same game.

55 wins for the U.S.

With the 8-0 victory over Guyana, the United States reached 55 all-time wins in the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship, the most by any nation. It also marked the first-ever 8-0 victory for the U.S. in the history of the tournament.

Costa Rica 0, Puerto Rico 0

A nil-nil draw between Costa Rica and Puerto Rico provided the first stalemate of the tournament.

Puerto Rico had the clearer chances in the closing minutes of the first half, as Susana Roberts attempted to break the deadlock in the 41’.

Alondra González had a chance to give the hosts their first goal of the match in the 78’, but her header went above the crossbar.

Neither team would be able to find the match-winner as each side took a point. Goalkeepers Valeria Fernández of Costa Rica and Alondra Iriarte of Puerto Rico each collected their first clean sheet of the campaign.

Post-Match Data

Alondra Iriarte stands out with 10 saves

Puerto Rico’s Alondra Iriarte closed out Matchday 1 of the group stage as the goalkeeper with the most saves recorded (10), followed by Guyana’s Kymora Chung (7), Panama’s Elsa Grant (5), and Guyana’s Alexix Mars (5). Interestingly, none of their teams were able to secure a win.

Costa Rica recorded its second-ever 0-0 draw (including qualifiers and Championship matches). The last time Costa Rica finished a match without goals was on May 31, 2004, against the United States on Matchday 3 of Group B. With this result, Costa Rica snapped a three-match winning streak against Caribbean teams. It was also Costa Rica’s second draw against a Caribbean side — the previous one being a 1-1 draw with Jamaica on January 13, 2004, on Matchday 1 of Group A. Michelle Montero (7’) scored for Costa Rica, while Oshay Nelson-Lawes (56’) equalized for Jamaica.

The scoreless draw with Puerto Rico ended Costa Rica’s streak of 20 consecutive matches without a draw in the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship, a run that included 14 wins and 4 losses — the longest such streak in tournament history. This was Costa Rica’s 11th draw overall and it ended a run of 10 straight tournament openers without a draw (4 wins, 6 losses).
