MIAMIThe FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 continues with its third matchday on Monday, as Concacaf nation USA begins its campaign.

USA meets New Caledonia, while Colombia faces Saudi Arabia in the day’s closing matches. The matchday will complete the first round of matches in the Group Stage.

USA vs. New Caledonia

The United States meets New Caledonia in Group E at Estadio El Teniente in Rancagua, Chile.

Team USA will begin its eighteenth participation, and sixth consecutive, in the U-20 World Cup. Concacaf Men's U-20 Championship Best XI selections Brooklyn Raines and Niko Tsakiris headline the 21-man squad called up by manager Marko Mitrović.

Tsakiris was the winner of the Best Player Award, presented by Scotiabank, at the 2024 CMU20C as one of the standout players in the tournament with two goals and two assists, helping the U.S. to a runners-up finish.

The U-20 World Cup has served as proving ground for future national team stars like Marcelo Balboa, DaMarcus Beasley, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan, Tim Howard, and others.

New Caledonia will make its debut at the U-20 World Cup after qualifying as runners-up in the 2024 OFC U-19 Men's Championship.

 

 

United States vs. New Caledonia

 

This will be the first-ever meeting between the United States and New Caledonia in FIFA U-20 World Cup history.

 

For the U.S., it will be their fourth encounter against an Oceanian opponent, having won all three previous matches — each of them against New Zealand.

At the North Harbour Stadium in Auckland, the United States earned a 4-0 victory over the hosts.

 

The goals were scored by Bradford Jamieson IV (6’), Emerson Hyndman (33’), Paul Arriola (58’) and Rubio Rubín (83’).

At the Incheon Stadium in Incheon, the U.S. recorded a resounding 6-0 win.

 

The scorers were Josh Sargent (32’), Jeremy Ebobisse (64’), Brooks Lennon (65’), Justen Glad (76’), Auston Trusty (84’) and Lagos Kunga (90+3’).

 

·       August 30, 2023 – Argentina 2023, Round of 16

 

At the Estadio Malvinas Argentina’s in Mendoza, the Americans once again dominated, defeating New Zealand 4-0.

 

Goals came from Owen Wolff (14’), Cade Cowell (61’), Justin Che (75’) and Rokas Pukstas (82’).

 

In the broader record, this will be the 19th match between an Oceanian and a Concacaf side in the history of the competition. Oceania teams hold a record of 5 wins, 1 draw and 8 defeats (GF-23, GA-33).
