MIAMI, Florida – The 2022 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship in Honduras kicks off on June 18 and headlining Group E will be reigning champions United States.

The U.S. have actually claimed the last two editions of the CMU20 in 2017 and 2018, respectively, and will be out for a fourth overall title.

It is the 25th CMU20 appearance for the U.S., who boast an overall record of 75W-20D-28L with 277 goals scored and 101 allowed. The U.S. will be aiming to qualify for their 17th FIFA Men’s Under-20 World Cup.

The players that make up this year’s squad will certainly have some big shoes to fill as they try to better the nine goals scored by Alex Mendez in the 2018 edition and the five assists from Paxton Pomykal in that same tournament.

Joining the U.S. in Group E is fellow North American side Canada, who will be playing in their 24th CMU.

Champions in 1986 and 1996, Canada own an all-time record of 50W-18D-34L in the CMU20, with 190 goals scored and 115 conceded.

As has been the case with Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team, The Men’s Under-20 Team for Canada boast a number of rising stars who will try to leave their mark and put themselves on the radar of Senior Team Head Coach John Herdman.

Randy Edwini-Bonsur, Jordan Hamilton and Noble Okello are Canada’s all-time top CMU20 scorers with three goals each, while Thelonius Bair led the team in the 2018 edition with three assists.

Canada will be out to qualify for a ninth U20 World Cup.

Saint Kitts and Nevis will be making their third appearance in a CMU20 in Honduras after group stage finishes at Costa Rica 2017 and USA 2018.

While they have never advanced past the group stage at the CMU20, they did earn a 2-1 win over group opponents Canada in the 2018 tournament.

GK Zaykeese Smith registered 18 saves for Saint Kitts and Nevis in 2018, while Romario Martin and Tyreese Shade are the top CMU20 scorers with three goals each.

Rounding out Group E is Cuba, who are making their 14th CMU20 appearance and will be hoping to qualify for their second U20 World Cup.

Cuba were runners-up in the 1970 and 1974 editions and all told have a record of 22W-12D-24L, with 71 goals scored and 78 against. When it comes to Cuban goal scorers in the CMU20, Geobel Perez’s five goals will be the mark that members of this year’s Cuba team will try to surpass.
