MIAMI – The FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 continued on Saturday, with Mexico losing 2-nil against Argentina in the Quarterfinals at Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago, Chile.
Maher Carrizo opened the scoring in the 9’, pouncing on a rebound, to place Argentina in front.
Mateo Silvetti doubled the lead in the 56’, charging through the middle of the field before striking a right-footed finish in the box.
Mexico’s attack woke up late in the second half with three attempts on target in the final stretch, Tahiel Jiménez in the 82’, Yael Padilla in the 83’ and Amaury Morales seconds later, but could not impede the clean sheet effort for Santino Barbi.
Diego Ochoa exited the match in the 90'+2' after picking up a second yellow card. Tahiel Jiménez was also ejected, receiving a red card in the 90'+6', as Mexico finished the match with nine players.
Mexico exits the tournament with a 2-2-1 record and a quarterfinals appearance, its best finish since the 2017 edition and best record since 2011.
