MIAMI – The FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 continued with its second matchday on Sunday, including Concacaf nations Cuba and Mexico opening their campaigns in the day’s closing matches.
Mexico split the points with Brazil in an encounter that where both teams held the lead. Cuba attempted a comeback against Argentina as it began its second ever appearance in the tournament.
Mexico 2, Brazil 2
Mexico tied 2-2 with Brazil in Group C at Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago, Chile.
Alexéi Domínguez placed Mexico in front in the 10’, pouncing on a rebound inside the box after Tahiel Jiménez was denied on a header by the goalkeeper.
Brazil tied the match in the 21’ as Coutinho delivered an accurate strike from inside the penalty arc.
The Brazilians took the lead in the 71’ off a throw in, when Luighi converted an attempt over the defense into the left side netting.
Diego Ochoa struck a header off a corner kick service from Gilberto Mora in the 86’ to put the match back on level terms at two goals apiece.
Mexico and Brazil took a point each to begin at the middle of the table. Morocco leads the group after a 2-nil victory over Spain earlier in the day.
The next match for Mexico will come on Wednesday against Spain.

Cuba 1, Argentina 3
Cuba fell 3-1 to Argentina in Group D at Estadio Elías Figueroa Brander in Valparaíso, Chile.
Alejo Sarco struck the opening goal in the 4’ to place Argentina in front, guiding the ball into the net with his right after connecting with a service from Maher Carrizo inside the six-yard box.
Santiago Fernández received a red card in the 10’, leaving Argentina with one less player for the rest of the match.
Sarco completed his brace in the 41’ by connecting with a header inside the box on a cross from Gorosito.
Karel Pérez cut the deficit in the 45’+4’, striking at the far post on a corner kick opportunity. The goal marked the second ever for Cuba in a FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The comeback fell short for the Caribbean side as Argentina sealed the victory in the 90’, when Ian Subiabre converted from a left-footed strike inside the box.
Argentina and Italy lead the group, respectively, as both sides won their opening encounters. Australia and Cuba will seek to collect its first points in their next encounters.
Cuba’s next challenge will come on Wednesday when it meets Italy.
