SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – It is back to the field of play for the teams in Group F and Group G on Tuesday at the 2022 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship in Honduras, with three teams hoping to keep their perfect records intact.
El Salvador vs. Aruba
The day starts at the Estadio Nacional in Tegucigalpa where El Salvador will take on Aruba in Group G.
The Cuscatlecos enjoyed an excellent start to the tournament with a 5-1 victory over Guatemala in which four players found the back of the net to go along with a Guatemala own goal. In addition to a goal, Harold Osorio also added an assist for El Salvador.
Meanwhile, Aruba will be looking to rebound from their opening 5-0 defeat to Panama and get a result in what will be the first ever meeting between the two sides in a CMU20.
Guatemala vs. Panama
The nightcap in Group G at the Estadio Nacional will be another all-Central American affair, with Guatemala facing Panama for the third time in CMU20 history. They played to a 0-0 draw in the Third Place Match in 2011 and then a Panama 1-0 win in the group stage in the 2015 edition.
Panama sit on three points after defeating Aruba, while Guatemala will be out to bounce back after their opening loss to El Salvador. Despite giving up five goals, GK Jorge Moreno was very good in net for the Chapines with seven saves.
As for Panama, Javier Betegon had a pair of goals to lead the way, while Kevin Garrido collected two assists to go along with a goal.
Haiti vs. Suriname
Group F at the Estadio Morazan in San Pedro Sula will begin with Suriname facing Haiti in a match-up of two teams seeking their first win in what will be a first ever CMU20 encounter between the two nations.
Suriname succumbed 8-0 to Mexico in their first match and will be out to improve at both ends of the field, but they will surely be tested by Haiti’s Steevenson Jeudy. The 2022 Flow Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship Best Young Player Award winner scored a pair of goals in Les Grenadiers’ thrilling 4-4 draw with Trinidad and Tobago to open the tournament.
Mexico vs. Trinidad and Tobago
The nightcap in San Pedro Sula will pit Mexico against Trinidad and Tobago in the third CMU20 meeting between the two sides. A 2-2 draw in the 2009 edition was followed two years later by a 5-0 Mexico win in 2011.
Mexico arrive in fine form after an 8-0 win versus Suriname in which Salvador Mariscal notched a hat trick to pace El Tricolor. But Trinidad and Tobago showed they have plenty of goals in their boots after their 4-4 draw with Haiti. Nathanial James had a brace and an assist as one of the dangermen for the Soca Warriors and will be aiming to have another prolific outing on Tuesday.
