SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – The Costa Rican Football Federation announced Tuesday that it parted ways with Ronald Mora, head coach of the under-20 national team.
The move was made after the squad’s slow start to the Central American qualifying tournament in El Salvador, which will determine the region’s representatives for the next CONCACAF Under-20 Championship. The Ticos have one point in three games and sit only above last-place Belize in the seven-team table.
"He (Mora) was relieved of his duties early Tuesday morning,” said Adrian Gutierrez, president of the National Teams Committee. “It was a decision made based on the report of the people in charge. It was not only for bad results, but poor communication with his working group.”
Mora’s assistant, former Costa Rica national team star Harold Wallace, 38, will take charge of the team for the remainder of the competition.
Costa Rica will next face fourth-place Nicaragua on Wednesday.
