MIAMI, Florida – This week, 17 teams will begin their quest to reach this summer’s 2020 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship in Honduras with the start of CU20 Championship Qualifying.

At stake is not only a spot in the Under-20 Championship, but a place in the Round of 16 of the tournament, with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the 2021 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

Under-20 Championship Qualifying will see the 17 teams split up between four groups, beginning with Group A in which Nicaragua will host Guyana, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Montserrat and the U.S. Virgin Islands at the Nicaragua National Football Stadium in Managua.

Nicaragua will look to build off their positive performance from the 2018 edition when they registered wins over Aruba and Saint Martin.

Group B sees the Dominican Republic welcoming in Grenada, Dominica and Anguilla to the Complejo Deportivo de Bayaguana in Monte Plata.

If the 2018 tournament is any indication, it should be a tight race, as the Dominican Republic posted three wins, while Grenada and Dominica each had two wins in that edition.

Emerging Curacao headlines Group C and will face off against Guadeloupe, Belize and Saint Martin at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curacao.

Curacao were a victory away from qualifying for the second round of the 2018 edition, while Guadeloupe registered three victories during that tournament.

Rounding out the qualifying phase is Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Cayman Islands and Barbados in Group D to be played at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico were very impressive in the 2018 tournament with three wins and will look to take a step forward in 2020 by reaching the knockout stage.

Note:

After round-robin play, the top finisher in each of the groups will advance directly to the knockout stage of the competition (third round).
