SALÉ, Morocco - Three Concacaf nations began their campaigns at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2025 on Saturday at the Football Academy Mohammed VI in Salé, Morocco.
The United States was the lone winning side from the region with a three-point start in Group C, second on goal difference. Costa Rica and Mexico fell in their opening encounters to begin at the bottom of Group A and B, respectively.
Italy 3, Costa Rica 0
Costa Rica fell 3-nil to Italy in Group A at Football Academy Mohammed VI (Pitch 1) in Salé, Morocco.
Las Ticas held their defensive line until the end of the first half, with Giulia Galli getting the first goal in the 42’. Anna Copelli doubled Italy’s lead in the 61’ with a header in the box. Galli closed a brace and Italy’s win in the 72’ with a right-footed shot at the edge of the box.
Costa Rica will look to bounce back against Brazil on Tuesday in its second match of the Group Stage.
Korea DPR 2, Mexico 0
Mexico lost 2-nil against defending champions Korea DPR in Group B at Football Academy Mohammed VI (Pitch 1) in Salé, Morocco.
Yu Jong Hyang opened the goal scoring in the 3’ with a left-footed shot in the box. Kim Won Sim doubled Korea DPR’s advantage in the 28’.
Mexico will look for its first win of the 2025 edition against the Netherlands on Tuesday.
United States 3, Ecuador 0
The United States of America secured a 3-nil win against Ecuador in Group C at Football Academy Mohammed VI (Pitch 3) in Salé, Morocco.
The first goal for the North Americas came from a set piece in the 19’, as Scottie Antonucci sent a ball to the center of the box for Meila Brewer to connect with a header to the back of the net.
Nyanya Touray doubled the U.S. lead in the 41’, ready in the area to take advantage of a loose ball from the Ecuadorian goalkeeper.
The third and final goal for The Stars and Stripes came before the half time whistle, in the 45’+1’, when Lauren Malsom sent a right-footed shot towards goal.
The USA will seek a second win in a row against China PR on Tuesday.
