MIAMI – The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Morocco 2025 concludes with its final matchday, which will see Concacaf nation Mexico take on Brazil in the Third Place Match on Saturday at the Olympic Stadium of Rabat in Rabat, Morocco.
Mexico will seek its best finish since 2018, when the nation took the silver medal. El Tricolor fell by the minimal difference to the Netherlands in the Semifinals.
The spotlight will once again be on goalkeeper Valentina Murrieta, who has recorded 31 saves in six games. On the offensive end, Citalli Reyes has been clutch with two match-winning goals in the 2025 edition.
Brazil is coming off a 2-nil loss to defending champions Korea DPR in the Semifinals. Gi Iseppe and Giovanna Waksman lead Brazil’s offense with three goals each for the South Americans.
The two countries face each other for the third time at the U-17 Women’s World Cup, first doing so in the 2012 Group Stage with Brazil taking a 1-nil win. The two later met in 2018, also in group play, when Mexico took a 1-nil victory.
All-Time series
Brazil vs. Mexico
Mexico will play for the third place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the first time in its history. This marks only the third occasion in which a Concacaf nation participates in the tournament’s bronze medal match.
With this achievement, Mexico joins Canada and the United States as the only Concacaf teams to reach this stage. Of the three, only the U.S. has managed to win the third-place match — 3-0 over England in the Dominican Republic 2024 edition — while Canada fell 1-2 to New Zealand in Uruguay 2018.
The meeting with Brazil will be the third in tournament history between the two nations, and the first time they face each other in a match that determines a final placement. The series is currently even, with one win apiece:
· Brazil 1-0 Mexico, Azerbaijan 2012 (September 26)
· Mexico 1-0 Brazil, Uruguay 2018 (November 16)
For Brazil, this will also be its first-ever third-place match in the U-17 Women’s World Cup. The South Americans become just the second CONMEBOL nation to reach this stage, following Venezuela, who did so twice consecutively. On both occasions, the Vinotinto was defeated — 4-4 (0-2 on penalties) against Italy in Costa Rica 2014, and 0-4 versus Spain in Jordan 2016.
This matchup will also be the fifth all-time meeting between Concacaf and CONMEBOL nations in U-17 Women’s World Cup knockout matches. South American teams hold the edge with three qualifications, while the only Concacaf win over a CONMEBOL side came from Mexico, who defeated Paraguay 1-0 in the Round of 16 of Morocco 2025.
Third Place Match results in U-17 Women’s World Cup history:
· England 0-3 Germany (New Zealand 2008)
