MIAMI, Florida – The 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship in the Dominican Republic continues on Sunday with the teams in Group F and Group H seeing their first action of the tournament.
In Group F at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, 2010 CWU17 champions Canada will begin their quest for a second crown against hosts Dominican Republic.
Canada are appearing in their seventh CWU17 and have a habit of making the knockout round, having reached the semifinal stage in every edition.
Sunday’s game will be a historical one for the home side, as it will be the first CWU17 match ever for the Dominican Republic.
Beginning the day in Group F will be Jamaica taking on Bermuda. It marks the sixth CWU17 for the Reggae Girlz, whose best finish came in 2013 when they were fourth.
Meanwhile, Bermuda will be making their second voyage in CWU17 after appearing in the last edition in 2018 when they scored two goals.
Also, on Sunday, Group H will kick things off at the Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal with a duel between two Central American sides, as Guatemala tangle with El Salvador.
It is the first time since 2013 that El Salvador are in the CWU17, which also yielded their lone CWU17 victory, while Guatemala would love a victory to help them reach the knockout round for the first time in four CWU17s.
The nightcap in Group H will feature an all-Caribbean battle between Haiti and Cuba. Haiti finished fourth in both the 2016 and 2018 editions and will try to go a step further in 2022, but first they must face a Cuba team that will be aiming to make a good impression in what will be their first ever CWU17 match.
