MIAMI – Round One of the 2026 Concacaf Women’s Qualifiers continued with the opening matches in Groups C, D and E on Sunday.
Guatemala, Cuba, Haiti, Honduras and Costa Rica were all victorious to start their campaigns. Jamaica and Guyana provided the only stalemate of the day.
Group C
Guatemala 1-0 Cayman Islands
Guatemala earned a 1-nil victory over the Cayman Islands in Group C at Stadion Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca in Willemstad, Curaçao.
The only goal of the encounter came in the 85’, as a pair of second-half substitutions linked up when Monica Martínez found Emery Aguilar for the tap-in that secured the three points.
Haiti 6-1 Antigua and Barbuda
Haiti got off to a convincing start with a 6-1 win over Antigua and Barbuda in Group C at Stadion Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca in Willemstad, Curaçao.
The opening goal came in the 19’ when Keisha Gue knocked in a ball off her chest. Haiti doubled the lead soon after, in the 22’, as Kerdina Lamour stole the ball, danced past defenders with great skill, and unleashed a low blast.
Gue got her second of the game in the 30’ as a bad clearance led to a goal from the middle of the area.
The fourth Haitian goal landed in the 53’ when Gue slipped in a fantastic through ball to Kyrah Lormil.
Adjani Kamanzi-Mondestin got on the board for Haiti in the 65’ with a strong shot from the left side of the box.
Antigua and Barbuda avoided the shutout as Keitonya Skepple blasted a rocket from right side for a goal in the 79’.
Lamour put the finishing touches on the win in the 86’ as she knocked in a loose ball to record her brace.
Group D
Jamaica 1-1 Guayana
Group D opened with a hard-fought 1-1 draw between Jamaica and Guyana at Stadion Guillermo Prospero Trinidad in Oranjestad, Aruba.
After a scoreless affair for the majority of the match, Guayana broke through with the opening goal in the 74’ when Alexaudria Chasles was in the perfect spot to tap in a bad clearance from close range.
Guayana was fighting to close it out, but in the 85’ Jamaica found an equalizer as Nicolette Predergas sent a towering shot from outside the box over the goalkeeper.
Honduras 3-1 Aruba
Honduras took control of Group D by defeating Aruba, 3-1, at Stadion Guillermo Prospero Trinidad in Oranjestad, Aruba.
La H got on the board in the 71’ with a wonderful strike by Alexandra Merriam from outside the box.
Honduras doubled its lead in the 79’ when Allisson Suazo used great footwork to get past a few defenders and finish off the play with a low shot to the back of the net.
In the 87’, Merriam recorded a brace as she snatched the ball right from the keeper’s feet on a bad clearance.
The home side avoided the shutout as Adannayah Breinburg smashed a great free kick from the edge of the box in the 90’+2’.
Group E
Cuba 4-3 Grenada
Group E kicked off with a seven-goal spectacle as Cuba recorded a 4-3 victory over Grenada at Estadio Miguel Chocorrón Buitrago in Managua, Nicaragua.
Grenada opened the scoring through Alexis Hypolite in the 3’ with a shot from close range.
Cuba quickly took over as Yaiselis López tallied a first-half hat trick. Her first came in the 29’. as she made a strong run into the box and slipped it past the keeper. She scored her second in the 38’ by finding space between the defenders and, three minutes later, got her third by outracing the goalkeeper to the ball.
Grenada cut into the deficit right before the break as Arielle Grant knocked a curler off the post in the 45’+3’.
López netted her fourth goal of the night in the 61’ as Yoesmayda Isaac found her in the middle of the box for the strike.
In the 90’+2’, Grenada scored a third as Jazmine Lewis hustled to a deflected ball in the area and beat the defender.
Costa Rica 16-0 British Virgin Islands
Costa Rica made a statement in Group E with a 16-nil rout over the British Virgin Islands at Estadio Miguel Chocorrón Buitrago in Managua, Nicaragua.
Costa Rica had eight different scorers, led by five goals from Nubia Medina and four from Lucía Paniagua.
Las Ticas opened the scoring five minutes in off a long-range shot from Cameron Mora. Avril Pérez doubled the score in the 26’ by knocking in a ball at the back post.
Medina scored her first of the night with a header in the 29’ and followed that up with a header in the 34’. She continued her form with a second-half hat trick, scoring goals in the 47’, 79’ and 82’.
Paniagua also scored frequently, netting her first in the 33’ and striking twice in the 37’, including a converted penalty kick. She started the second half with a goal in the 49’ for her fourth of the game.
Costa Rica also had other players chip in such as captain Isska Chaverri, who scored a rocket from outside the box in the 65’.
