PORT OF SPAIN, Haiti -- Bermuda clinched a semifinal berth the Caribbean Football Union Women's Under-17 Tournament after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago on Monday at the Stade Sylvio Cator.
A single moment of brilliance from Aaliyah Nolan in the 50th minute was enough for the Bermudians to be assured of spot in the final four with a game to spare. The 16-year-old, who also plays with the under-20 national team, received a pass from Eva Frazzoni and fired a laser past a diving goalkeeper Nicolette Craig.
Trinidad's Zoe Swift, who scored five goals in a 10-0 win over Grenada on Saturday, was shutdown out by a Bermuda defense determined to limit her space and reduce her touches.
“Trinidad is always a good team to play against and this was a good win as we look to move forward,” said a pleased Bermuda head coach Aaron Denkins after the game.
Trinidad & Tobago controls its own destiny, knowing that a win against the Dominican Republic on Wednesday evening will assure advancement. Bermuda will face Grenada the same day.
