CARIACICA, Brazil – The United States battled to a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Japan in their second match of Group D of the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup campaign at the Estadio Kleber Andrade in Cariacica, Brazil.
Japan came out the more aggressive side and tested the U.S. defense on several occasions, but were unable to find a way past U.S. goalkeeper Chituru Odunze.
The U.S. tried to get their attack going through Gianluca Busio, but the Sporting Kansas City man was limited by a strong effort from the Japanese defense.
Japan looked to put pressure on the U.S. defense to force a mistake, but again Odunze’s steady hand in goal was pivotal.
In the end, the two teams would settle for a share of the points and a chance to qualify for the next round in their group stage finale.
The U.S. will close out their Group D campaign on Saturday versus the Netherlands.
