BRADENTON, Florida – Nicaragua collected a massive win over Grenada, while Cayman Islands and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines battled to a draw in Group A action in 2019 Concacaf Under-17 Championship Qualifying on Friday.
The Pinoleros topped Grenada 4-0 to put themselves into position to win the group with a victory over Cayman Islands on the final matchday of the group on Sunday.
Waldner Vasquez Pineda broke the deadlock in the 12’ before the floodgates opened in the second half with goals from Patrick Huete Valenzuela in the 50’ and 82’ and Leonardo Bonilla Ortiz in the 56’ to give Nicaragua the clean sheet victory.
In the day’s other match, Cayman Islands and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines played to a 1-1 draw.
Corey Smith gave Cayman Islands a lead in the 61’, only for a late score from the penalty spot in the 86’ from Jahiem Kimanie Pompey gave Vincy Heat a share of the spoils.
Group A will conclude on Sunday with a decisive encounter between Nicaragua and Cayman Islands. Nicaragua must win to advance, while Cayman Islands only needs a draw.
Rounding out the group will be Grenada taking on U.S. Virgin Islands.
