BRASILIA, Brazil – Canada will have their sights set on making some history at the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Brazil.
It marks the seventh time that Canada will have participated in an Under-17 World Cup, yet in their previous six appearances, the Canadians have not advanced to the knockout round.
However, a new opportunity presents itself after a strong semifinal appearance at the 2019 Concacaf Under-17 Championship that earned Canada the World Cup ticket.
In FW Jayden Nelson, Canada boast one of the best attacking players in the tournament. The Toronto FC starlet lit up the Concacaf Under-17 Championship by scoring five goals in six matches, including a hat-trick in a 4-2 group stage win over Guatemala.
In addition to Nelson, Kamron Habibullah, who scored three goals in the CU17, also gives the Canadians plenty of punch going forward.
Canada’s quest for the knockout round begins in Group A where they will face hosts Brazil, New Zealand and Angola, with all matches taking place at the Estadio Bezerrao in Brasilia.
Canada open the group on Saturday against Brazil, followed by a date on Tuesday against Angola before concluding the group stage against New Zealand on Friday, November 1.
