Man of the Match:  Jean Pierre van der Linden (Aruba)

 

Aruba scored two goals within seven minutes of the opening whistle and never looked back, defeating the US Virgin Islands, 10-0.  Jean-Pierre Van Der Linden tallied the opener and added five more by the 60th minute to finish with six goals, setting a new tournament record for most goals scored by a player in a single match.  Leighton Thomas of the Cayman Islands established the previous mark of five against Sint Maarten on August 13.  The Arubans improved to 3-0-0 with 20 goals and none conceded.  The US Virgin Islands fell to 0-0-3 and have been eliminated from contention with two games remaining.

Man of the Match:  Nicholas Plakaris (Bahamas)

 

The Bahamas got goals from seven different players to beat Sint Maarten, 8-0, for its first win of the CONCACAF Under-15 Championship.  Antonio Hanna opened the scoring in the 12th minute and Keegan Bischof made it 2-0 five minutes before half-time.  Man of the Match Nicholas Plakaris started a string of six second-half goals nine minutes after the interval.  Ethan Willie (62’, 66’) netted during a four-minute span just after the hour mark.  The Bahamas had not scored in its previous two tournament outings (4-0 loss v Aruba, 1-0 loss v Bermuda).  Sint Maarten fell to 0-0-3 and has been eliminated from contention for a semifinal berth with two games remaining.

Man of the Match:  Oneko Lowe (Bermuda)

 

Before a standing-room-only crowd, Bermuda won a battle of undefeated teams, topping the host Cayman Islands, 3-0, to join Aruba at the summit of the Group A table.  Just when it appeared the first-half would end knotted at 0-0, Oneko Lowe put the Bermudians ahead one minute into stoppage time. Bermuda surfaced from the break in a determined mood and the influential Osagi Bascome made it 2-0 two minutes after the teams re-entered the field. Jai-Zel Smith-DeShields closed the Bermuda goal account in the 42nd minute with his second goal of the competition. The loss dropped the Caymans Islands to 2-0-1, while Bermuda (3-0-0, 9 points) looks forward to Sunday’s challenge against Aruba (3-0-0, 9 points) in a top-of-the-table clash.  Bascome has scored in three consecutive games.
