ORLANDO, Florida Prior to Suriname’s 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup Group B encounter with Costa Rica, Suriname FW Gleofilo Vlijter was presented with an award by Concacaf President Victor Montagliani for being the top scorer in the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League.

Vlijter scored 10 goals in six matches in League B to lead all players across League A, League B and League C, helping Suriname finish atop Group D of League B.

Suriname’s first-place finish in the group qualified the country for its first ever Gold Cup.

The 21-year-old striker scored both Suriname goals in an opening 2-1 win at Dominica, followed by a four-goal performance in a 6-0 home victory against Nicaragua.

Vlijter would then add a brace in Suriname’s 2-2 draw at Saint Vincent and the Grenadines before finishing off his impressive CNL campaign with another two goals in the 4-0 home win over Dominica.
