WILLEMSTAD, Curacao The 2019 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield is done and dusted after a fantastic 10 days of football in which Robinhood of Suriname emerged as the champion of the tournament’s second edition by defeating Club Franciscain of Martinique 1-0 in the Final on Monday night.

The tournament saw 13 teams compete in 24 matches held at the Ergilio Hato Stadium and the Stadion dr. Antoine Maduro, both in Willemstad, Curacao.

The football on display was full of excitement, with 14 of the 24 matches either decided by a goal or less, including all three matches of Group B in the group stage and Monday night’s Final.

There were plenty of goalscoring heroes during the 10 days, none more so than Robinhood’s Stefano Rijssel, who finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with four goals, powered by his hat trick in a 4-1 win over Dakota of Aruba in the group stage.

Following right behind Rijssel were three players with three goals each: Siebren Arie Hoekstra of Jong Holland (Curacao), Djenhael Mainge of Club Franciscain (Martinique) and Noah Nicholas of Platinum FC (Saint Lucia).

While Rijssel was the lone player to score a hat trick during the tournament, eight players notched braces during the competition: Rolando Abreu of Santiago de Cuba (Cuba), Alickson Montoute of Greenbay Hoppers (Saint Kitts and Nevis), Eugine Jarmain Kirwan of Greenbay Hoppers (Saint Kitts and Nevis), Noah Nicholas of Platinum FC (Saint Lucia), Rilove Janga of Real Rincon (Bonaire), Siebren Arie Hoekstra of Jong Holland (Curacao), Stephane Abaul of Club Franciscain (Martinique) and Djenhael Mainge of Club Franciscain (Martinique).

All told, there were 61 goals scored and 14 clean sheets kept, making for a memorable 2019 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield.
