EINDHOVEN, Netherlands – PSV Eindhoven announced Thursday that midfielder Andres Guardado could be out of action for a significant amount of time after suffering an ankle injury.
The Mexico international damaged ligaments in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League win at Manchester United after a clash with Chris Smalling.
Guardado underwent an MRI scan, but will require another once the severe swelling has subsided. Those further tests will determine how long the 28-year-old is expected to be sidelined.
His availability is uncertain for Mexico’s CONCACAF Cup meeting with the United States on October 10 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
In July, Guardado was the named the CONCACAF Gold Cup’s Golden Ball winner, following Mexico’s 3-1 win over Jamaica in the final.
