With the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup set to kick off in three days, CONCACAF.com is continuing to profile one player from each of the 12 teams every day until the opener on July 7 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.
Gino van Kessel (Curacao)
Gino van Kessel, an emerging talent in CONCACAF, had a 2016 to remember.
He was the only player from a CONCACAF nation to lead a European league in scoring for the 2015/16 season, topping the Slovakian league’s goal table by netting 17 times for Trencin.
His play earned him a move to Slavia Praha in the Czech Republic, where he scored once in five UEFA Europa League games. In the early part of 2017, van Kessel was loaned to Poland’s Lechia Gdansk.
The 24-year-old was the joint-top scorer in the 2016/17 Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup -- which Curacao won for the first-ever time -- with teammate Felitciano Zschusschen on seven goals each.
